Geeky Gift Guide – November Blog Brew 2020

With the holidays coming up, I’m sure many of us have already started shopping for presents or are going to start soon. Of course, we always want to find the perfect gifts for the people we love the most, but with all of us having different wants and interests, that can be difficult to accomplish. Personally, I’d love to receive presents related to my favorite hobbies, like video games, anime, and books. I know many people share in those interests, and other geeky hobbies. So, I’ve compiled a list of some of the best geeky gifts on Amazon to help with your holiday shopping. Hopefully, this list will help you find just the right present for the special geeks in your life. 

Final Fantasy Moogle Lamp

First up, here’s this adorable Moogle lamp from Final Fantasy! Moogles are some of the most iconic, not to mention cute, creatures from the immensely popular and long-running video game series. Just imagine waking up or falling asleep with this cutie lighting your room. It could be used as a night light, or just when you want to add a bit of extra light and color to a room. This would make a wonderful gift for any Final Fantasy fans in your life! 

Puzzles

Next, we have a few really cool puzzles! I, and many others, have been doing puzzles as a way to pass the time and bond with family during the pandemic. They’re great for both entertainment and stimulating your mind, making puzzles one of my favorite gift types on this list. Amazon carries a huge variety of puzzles, so the possibilities are nearly endless. But, if you’re looking for geeky ones, then these My Hero Academia, Stranger Things, and 90s puzzles are fantastic options! 

I love how cool and colorful the My Hero Academia puzzle is, especially with the sound effects on it. And the 90s puzzle gives me so much geeky nostalgia goodness. Plus, these puzzles feature very popular, well-known series, so chances are, most people will really enjoy them. 

Plushes

Another wonderful present for those of us who enjoy gifts on the geeky side is plushes! They’re adorable, look great as display pieces, and are soft to cuddle with. Even better, there’s a wide array of plushes available, ranging from Pokemon to Pusheen. With that kind of variety, there’s truly something for everyone, including our geeky friends and family. Some of my favorites are the plushes featured below, made up of No Face from Spirited Away, an absolutely adorable Christmas themed Pikachu, Gudetama, the popular Sanrio character, and Baby Yoda/The Child from The Mandalorian. 

I think all of these would make for amazing gifts depending on the interests of your loved ones. They’re all cute, though; that’s for sure! And who doesn’t love a soft, adorable plush?

Advent Calendars

The next gift type I’d like to talk about is one that’s bound to be a holiday hit; advent calendars! In my opinion, this is one of the best gifts to give and receive, as it’s the type of present that just keeps on giving. You can do so many different things with an advent calendar, too. For example, you could open the entire set on the day of whatever holiday you celebrate, or save it and open each section one day at a time leading up to that holiday. Either way, these are a lot of fun and can make for incredibly rewarding expressions of love. 

Furthermore, they’re suitable for all ages since there’s such a wide range of advent calendar types and items. You could go with a figure/toy advent calendar, a sock one, or something else. I have a few separate calendars listed below, including a Harry Potter Lego set of the Yule Ball (especially perfect for the holiday season), a super cool Mario calendar with action figures and accessories, and a lovely pack of socks featuring The Nightmare Before Christmas. With advent calendars, the possibilities are truly endless, and you’re bound to find a calendar that your loved ones will treasure. 

Ita Bags

The next gift is one that’s sure to inspire creativity and customization. Ita bags are meant to display merchandise and fandom goods, typically ones related to anime and manga. However, they can be used for just about any fandom that has merch available. There is so much you can do with these bags, especially depending on the style you purchase. So, if you have a loved one who adores fandom merch and displays it as proudly as possibly, an ita bag might be the best gift you can give. 

And just look at all the cute, stylish forms ita bags come in! Personally, I’m a big fan of both the monochromatic bow bag and the chain/bow bag. Both designs are fairly simple, but still really cute and appealing. Plus, it’s the merchandise that shines the most, and these three styles would be the perfect backdrops for keychains, buttons, pins, and other beloved merch. Gift an ita bag this holiday season and see how your loved one’s merch shrine turns out!

Pins

What goes better with ita bags than awesome merch? That’s why the next gift I’m including is pins. They would be perfect to display in an ita bag, as you can very easily attach it to the inside board, and then just as easily remove it if you want to move the pin or switch it out. And if you’re purchasing an ita bag for someone, I feel it’s best you give them a bit of merch to start off with. Whether it’s one pin or multiple pins, they’ll give your friends and family a good starting point for making their dream ita bag. 

Below, you can see some of my favorites that I picked out. There’s the incredibly beautiful, sleek, and all around striking pin of Haku from the classic Studio Ghibli film, Spirited Away. Then, there’s also a pin of the iconic “To Be Continued” endscreen from the massively popular JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure anime. And finally, we have full sets of the gym leader badges from the Pokemon series. What’s really cool about this last option is that you can customize the set to any generation of gym leaders you want. So, if you have a Pokemon fan, find out which generation is their favorite, and you’re on the way to getting them a thoughtful, unique gift. 

Art Books

This next present is one of my absolute favorites, as I love art with all my heart. When I find a series, anime, or video game I really love, I want to see the beautiful art that went into making it. That’s what makes art books such a cool gift, and these days, you can easily find one for most fandoms. 

Maybe you have a friend who loves the Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse movie. There’s an art book for that. Or perhaps you have a loved one who adores Studio Ghibli movies and the gorgeous art they contain. There are art books available on Amazon for almost every Ghibli film, to satisfy your whimsical art cravings. Art books are a fantastic present for those of us who prefer to feast our eyes on beautiful visuals and illustrations. They’re fairly personal, too, as you have to know the favorite fandoms of your giftee in order to get them a suitable art book. 

The Nightmare Before Christmas Cross-Stitch Kit

The following gift, a The Nightmare Before Christmas Cross-Stitch set, is another of my definite favorites from this list. But, why do I like it so much? Well, if you know a TNBC fan, this would make for a very creative, original present for them. I’m a big fan of the film myself, and I think it would be so fun to create these designs. Plus, it’s an involved activity that requires decent focus, and as such, it will get your loved ones involved with something creative and keep them away from screens for a while. 

You could even use the set to make one of these cross-stitch designs and make that the gift instead! I think that would be even more considerate and meaningful; it would let your loved ones know you put in the time and effort to physically create something for them. And really, what gift is better than that? 

Cheshire Cat Salt and Pepper Shakers

If you’re searching for practical, functional gifts, then this Cheshire Cat salt and pepper shaker set is a great option. There’s the obvious function of using it to store salt and pepper for meals, but it would also make a wonderful display piece. This is especially true because the Cheshire Cat’s head and body disconnect so you can display them in a few fun, interesting ways. It’s likely to catch the eye of any guests you have, and maybe even be a conversation piece. If you’re gifting this to a Disney fan, then this becomes the ultimate gift for its design and usefulness. So, make that Disney fan in your life smile! 

Bulbasaur Planter

Next, we have another product that’s both cute and practical! It’s this adorable, multi-functional planter of Bulbasaur from the Pokemon series. This item comes with just the vase, but there are so many things you could do with it. You could go with the listing’s intended use, as a succulent planter. But, you could go another route and fill it with a loved one’s favorite candies instead. Another thoughtful option is painting the planter yourself before filling it with anything.

Moreover, you could paint the vase to actually look like Bulbasaur, or just create your own special design. Either way, the giftee not only gets a functional present with many uses, they also get one you put your own time and effort into customizing. Personally, this would make me feel so appreciated and cared for. As I said before, some of the best gifts are the ones that your loved ones create or add their own special touch to. There are few better ways to show your family and friends just how much you love and cherish them. If you’re wanting a gift option that’s fairly inexpensive, thoughtful, customizable, and useful, then this planter is an excellent fit. 

Pokemon Twin Bed Set

Next up, we have yet another Pokemon item with this fantastically vibrant and appealing twin bed set! Now, I’ve always been quite the fan of this series, and it’s because of that I can tell you with absolute certainty young me would’ve adored this set. The design of it is just so fun and colorful; it really pops and stands out. I feel that this set would add a lot of character to a bedroom and give it a distinct vibe. This would also be a great focal point to center an entire Pokemon themed room around. 

Given that this set is twin sized, it would probably be best for children and younger people. If you have any kids, or have relatives with children, this would make for a fun, exciting present that they can actually use. And if those kids happen to love Pokemon, then they’ll surely adore this set. 

Superhero Book End

Last, but certainly not least, I chose this sleek, modern book end of a female superhero! For those of us who read and/or collect books, those same books toppling over can be a very real issue. We don’t want our precious books to become damaged, and each time they fall over, that’s a likely possibility. So, book ends are something that every bibliophile needs for their collection. This particular product can hold and protect your beloved books with the strength of a superhero, while being a stylish piece of home decor as well. Additionally, if you happen to collect comics and graphic novels, it would be an especially suitable gift. Your giftee could use this to prop up that specific part of their book collection, and how fitting would that be?
