The Quiet One

Always the quiet one, the one who stays silent

I’ll continue to be quiet, not saying a word,

Never calling your behavior out

But, I’ll write it down, make a note, create a mark

For every time I’ve been disappointed, wronged, or hurt

I won’t let it out, but I won’t forgive or forget

Stored in my mind, chained in my chest

The memories will forever be part of me,

Coursing through my blood and igniting my soul

All those horrid moments will do me some good, though

They’ll ensure I never let it go,

That I don’t give up and surrender to what you’ve become

Through the trauma, I will rise up,

Stronger and on fire with all the blows you’ve dealt

Like a phoenix, I will be born again

In the ashes of a broken disaster,

I’ll reclaim my life and rejoice in the wonders it has to offer

While you hate and harp from the shadows,

Wallowing in the murky depths of your own anger,

I will take another step forward,

Walking along the path my translucent tears crafted

I will keep going on, no longer shackled to you

I will find the beautiful life I’ve eternally dreamt of

This is easily one of the most honest and open pieces I’ve ever written. The last few years have been quite tough for me, and other ongoing issues like the pandemic certainly haven’t helped. I feel like I often bottle my emotions, thoughts, and opinions up, deep inside where they never see the light of day. They’re rarely ever spoken or heard, but still felt.

However, writing is very much my outlet, and that’s how raw poetry like this comes about. I don’t always do it, but while writing this poem, I let all those stifled emotions and thoughts out. I gave them life on the page through words and ink. And truthfully, I feel much better after having written and shared this. Poetry, and just writing in general, will forever be the conduit that allows me to vent and finally share the feelings I’ve locked away. It will always be a way for me to cope, heal, and move forward. ✨

How are you doing? Well, I hope! If you’d like to vent or talk about anything, I’m always here and ready to listen. Stay safe and healthy! And have a wonderful day! 😊💕

  1. This is very moving. Very raw, real, & visceral emotions. It takes courage to do so, and I admire that. Writing is cathartic for me too. I’m glad you were able to relieve some of those bottled up emotions. ❤ Beautifully written.

    1. Thank you so, so much!! 💜 This is truly one of the best compliments I’ve ever received on my writing. It means a whole lot to me! Writing is easily the most healing and calming outlet for me. It truly helps with negative emotions and difficult aspects of life. Thanks again! 😊
