If a person in your life is having a negative affect on you, as in they consistently leave you feeling down, stressed, anxious, etc., then it may be necessary to spend less time with them or completely cut off contact with them. Please don't feel guilty for doing this. You have to consider your own health and well-being, too. You have to do what you can to protect yourself from negative and toxic influences.
In today's world, we all face some form of negativity from time to time. I firmly believe responding to that negativity with positivity, is the best way to combat it. Treating negativity with more negativity only breeds more anger, frustration, dissatisfaction, and hate. Meanwhile, wielding positivity helps to spread kindness and love.
